Carrier Ethernet is a technology which can handle, in a consolidated perspective,  a single solution for a service provider deployment on backbone, core, and access.  South America is a region where legacy technologies as TDM V.35 access solutions still have a significant demand.  On the other hand, LTE deployment largely demands Carrier Ethernet for mobile backbones.  So, this region experiences a very particular  timeframe to consolidate Carrier Ethernet in a structured way to converge backbone, core, and access solutions to Carrier Ethernet.

Novedad para 2013

Los avances logrados en el desarrollo y la adopción de la tecnología Carrier Ethernet desde el evento de 2012 han influido en la producción de la edición de este año. Específicamente, el funcionamiento y la aplicación de Carrier Ethernet con la nube, Carrier Ethernet, LTE y backhaul, las tendencias mayoristas de Carrier Ethernet, y los desarrollos más recientes en materia de tecnología y arquitectura de redes.

The 3rd Annual Carrier Ethernet Americas Summit took place at the Windsor Barra in Rio De Janeiro gathering industry experts primarily from Brazil, Argentina and North America – the event saw a strong 27% Director and VP level attendance!

More than 100 delegates representing a who’s who in Carrier Ethernet met to discuss and find solutions to the latest challenges across the industry, joining over 25 expert speakers from across the region.

The event’s keynote opening presentation was delivered by Host Operator Oi’ s Manager for Data Communication Solutions advising service providers on how to capitalise Carrier Ethernet & deliver Next Generation Services. In his keynote address, the COO of the MEF presented the evolution of Carrier Ethernet into Carrier Ethernet 2.0 as well as the work of the organisation in this direction. MPLS-TP was a hot topic, with Telecom Argentina in a video link presenting on the Benefits of MPLS-TP and where it should be deployed in the Network, while NTT offered the Asian perspective on the topic. Ciena represented the vendor community discussing network Optimization using MPLS-TP. A highlight of the day was the panel on preparing for a Future with Cloud Computing featuring, Oi, Tim Brasil and overture. Alcatel Lucent also presented on the enablement of Cloud services to the enterprise. Last but not least, RAD advised operators on how to differentiate their Ethernet Service in the market place.

The second day featured a focus session on Carrier Ethernet for backhaul and LTE, with BT launching the debate on meeting the mobile backhaul challenge. Oi discussed the Brazilian progress in backhauling LTE with Carrier Ethernet while the MEF presented its 2012 Program to resolve 4G/LTE backhauls cost-related challenge. Solution providers EXFO and Symmetricom also contributed to the discussions on optimising backhaul. The Wholesale part of the agenda featured presentations by Telecom Italia via video link, TIM Brasil and the MEF tackling all aspects of Carrier Wholesale. Caribbean operator TSTT closed the discussion on developing a successful Next Generation wholesale Portfolio.
